Referral commissions are paid from Haltered's margin — no cost to the seller or buyer. Commissions apply to all horses sold from a referred barn with no expiration. Payments are issued at the same settlement cycle as listing commissions and reported on your annual 1099-NEC if total referral income exceeds $600.
Commissions stack. If you refer a barn AND list one of their horses, you earn both your standard 5% listing commission on that sale and the referral flat fee for that barn. These are independent income streams — one for bringing the barn to the platform, one for the listing itself. Both appear on your 1099-NEC.
